by Cheryl Schwartz belongs in every pet lovers library.  Cheryl Schwartz, DVM has been a natural and holistic Veterinarian for over 20 years.  This book is written in an organized fashion.  She discusses Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Acupressure, as well as proper Nutrition.  I think that dog owners with different levels of experience will benefit from this book.  It is one that I refer to often. Four Paws Five Directions is reasonably priced, easy to follow, has lots of pictures and is over 400 pages.

A Great House Plant . . .

that is safe to have around dogs happens to be one of my favorites is . . . the Piggyback Plant!  This indoor plant has proven for me to be durable and tolerant of different light conditions.  What I really like about Piggy Backs is the way that they make new plants. Little baby plants develop at the base of the "mother" plants leaf, you can just pick it of, put it in the soil and you have a new plant!

A Great Big Thank You to Rich!!!

It has been a long hot weekend.  I started out the weekend by being at The Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California Specialties on Friday and Saturday.  I have done those shows since the beginning so it was great to see some old and make some new friends.

On Sunday I was supposed to go and help Rich at the Lake Mathews Kennel Club show.  Sunday morning I woke up late and was wondering where Rich was since we needed to leave for the show.  I called him on the cell phone and he told me that he was already at the show getting ready for the day.  He watched TV the night before and saw that the temperature was going to be over a 100 degrees and didn't see any point in my going, so he gave me the day off!

Not only did he suffer in the heat alone, there was also a fire at the show grounds and he had all kinds of smoke and ash to deal with.

The weather smiled upon Angeles Canyon Dog Club.  The weather was mild, cold compared to what it has been.  The dogs loved it.  We couldn't have asked for more!  Special thanks to all the ACDC club members who helped to put this show on.  We really appreciated all of the "extras".

Congratulations to Eva and Libby (English Springer Spaniel).  Libby finished her Championship this weekend.  Way to go girls!!!

Rich got lots of great pictures of dogs having fun. 

Water Wubbas - Lots of Fun!

With the hot weather, Water Wubbas have been flying off the shelves.  Water Wubba comes in hot colors that are easy to see and do not have a squeaker.  They are made of neoprene (wet suit material) and dry fast.  Available in 3 sizes to accomodate all types of dogs.

Pet Expo 2008 ~

With the temperature in the mid 90's we did not get too many pictures.  It was unseasonably warm for Southern California.  Rich did manage to get a photo of the Moe Toys booth and the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California's award winning booth.  They took 1st place this year for their booth decoration.

 

It's Going To Be A Warm Weekend . . .

Hard to believe that it has been a year since this picture was taken.  It is a picture of Joey and Pickles cuddling at Pet Expo in 2007 at the Orange County Fairgrounds.  We are busy getting the booth ready for this weekend.  We are in Booth 248, so be sure to stop by and say Hi!

Have You Tried Sam's Yams?

If you haven't - then it is time to give them a try.  Sam's Yams  are an excellent alternative to commercial dog chews.  The chews are made from orange fleshed, sweet potato (though sometimes you may find them labeled as "yams" at the grocery store.) These chews are highly nutritious and excellent for your dog's teeth and health. Sweet potato is very high in anti-oxidants.  There is nothing artificial, no sweeteners, colors, or processed food items added. Sam's Yams are made only of human food quality, fresh sweet potato and nothing more. The trick is in the patent pending drying process, where the sweet potato is transformed into a chew that has characteristics similar to rawhide or jerky. Basically, a vegetable rawhide-like chew. Best of all, Dogs Love Them!!! There are three different shapes and sizes available.

RUB A DUB DUB, I have Slick in the TUB!

Or more like the kitchen sink.  When this little guy came and spent the night with us before going to his new home in Oregon, I decided to give him a bath. 

Being a baby I wanted to make sure that I gave him a gentle bath, so I used one of my favorites, Buddy Wash Lavender & Mint Shampoo.  Not only is this shampoo gentle enough to use on a baby like Slick.  It also leaves a  light, but great smelling scent.

The ingredients are:   Coconut shampoo base, aloe vera gel, essence of lavender, essence of mint, chamomile extract, sage extract, nettles extract, rosemary extract, wheat protein extract (natural deodorizing agent), tea tree oil, vitamin E, vitamin C.

Buddy Wash has no soap, so it is easy to rinse and I really love the way it leaves the coat.  Soft, silky and smelling just the way a puppy should!

The only thing that I do not like about this shampoo is that it tends to separate in the bottle.  Just shake it really well before using.

Dear Mrs. LaRue . . .

This Children's Book is perfect for Obedience Trainers and Dog Lovers of all ages. Dear Mrs. LaRue is a collection of guilt inducing  letters written by Ike LaRue a cat chasing, chicken pie eating dog who has been sent to the Igor Brotweiler Canine Academy.  From Ike's first letter home he pleads "How could you do this to me? This is a PRISON, not a school! You should see the other dogs. They are BAD DOGS, Mrs. LaRue!
